Plug in your GK-equipped guitar and you'll get three new guitar models including the analog-style Wave Synth, Middle-Eastern Sitar, and the incredible Nylon II model. Eighteen new amps have also been added, bringing the total up to 32 amp models. These include Jazz Combo, Match Lead, Tweed, and new R-Fier models like R-Fier Orange and Red. ZOB

System enhancements include new SYSEX control capabilities and Auto GK Detection for true 'plug-n-play' operation. Roland has unveiled the next chapter in V-Guitar technology: VG-88 Version 2. The VG-88 is now enhanced with the addition of 18 new COSM amp models, 3 new COSM guitars, new COSM wah modeling, Defretter and Uni-V effects. The Version 2 update also adds new system-wide functions like Auto GK Detection and SysEx control capabilities.
With Version 2 software, the VG-88 now boasts a total of 32 amp models, 18 of which are brand-new. These new amp types cover combos and stacks from vintage to modern, and include models like Jazz Combo, Match Lead, Tweed, R-Fier Orange and Red. The three new guitar models include the analog-style Wave Synth, Sitar and the new Nylon II model. Now literally any guitar or amp can be had at the touch of a button.
The VG-88's onboard effects are also beefed up, most notably with the addition of new COSM Wah modeling. A total of five wah models are provided including Cry Wah, VO Wah and 7STR Wah. Using the new Defretter effect guitarists can obtain instant fretless sounds, while Uni-V creates cool phase-shifted vibrato effects.
New system enhancements include Auto GK Detection--which makes it possible to instantly connect a standard electric guitar without having to dive into menus--plus the ability to control the VG-88 via System Exclusive messages.
All new VG-88's will be shipped with Version 2 software installed. Users who wish to update their existing VG-88 should note the following: The Roland VG-88 Version 2 update is not user-installable; it must be performed by the Roland U.S. service center in Los Angeles (local Roland service centers are not authorized to perform this update). To get your VG-88 upgraded to Version 2, please call Roland Customer Service at 323-890-3700, extension 2289, between the hours of 8:30 and 5:00 Pacific time for a return authorization number and instructions. Then send your VG-88 to Roland U.S. Roland will perform the update and return your VG-88 at no charge (U.S. residents only).
